Unity Protect is a subscription service that adds powerful features to Unity Intercom and Connect. Protect includes 256-bit encryption, automatic cloud backups and 24/7 monitoring.

Data Encryption

With Unity Protect you can now choose to enable AES256-GCM encryption and fully protect all communications from “man in the middle” attacks.

Cloud Backup

Unity Protect includes an automated online backup to Amazon S3 cloud that saves all your user configuration data and can be recovered in seconds. This makes the restore process extremely fast and easy in the event of a computer failure.

Server Monitoring

Know the status of your Unity Server at all times with 24/7 remote monitoring included with Unity Protect. Receive texts and emails in the event there’s ever an issue with the Server and minimize any downtime.

Data Encryption:

When encryption is enabled in the server, all network traffic will be protected with AES256-GCM encryption. This means all Unity audio is protected from any “man in the middle” attack.

UPDATE- With Unity Protect you only need UDP!

When encrypted, Unity will no longer use a TCP port, instead will only use UDP. This means as long as the server has enabled encryption only UDP port 20101 will require a forwarding rule for outside access.

Import note - When encryption is enabled no client device that is incompatible with the encryption requirements will be allowed to connect.

Unity Protect is compatible with:

Unity Clients

  • Mac - 2011 Westmere processor or later including Apple Silicon

  • PC - 2010 Westmere processor or later

  • iOS 13+

  • Android 8+

Unity Server

  • Mac - 2011 Westmere processor or later including Apple Silicon

Online Backup:

The Unity Protect backup service will create an automatic backup config file and upload it to Amazon S3 cloud following a change to the server configuration. This means as you make changes Unity’s smart backup tool will upload after 5 minutes of inactivity. This prevents backing up unnecessarily when multiple changes are being made. Unity will store all relevant changes in the last 12 hours and 7 previous non-consecutive days of changes. This means for example, that if the last time a change was made was a week ago, that will count as 1 day. The backup data may contain 7 separate days of backups that can span any period of time.

To restore from a Protect backup select the menu option from the drop down. See below-

Server Monitoring:

The Unity Protect monitoring service stays in constant communication with your server software from our cloud data center and will alert you if there is an audio device error (input I/O device issue) or it detects an outage (server is offline). You can choose when to receive alerts via text and email (and when not to be notified) and can fully customize these messages.
